The second most-performed procedure in 2017 was lasers—clocking in at 3.2 million completed procedures—aiming to treat hyperpigmentation from sun damage, age spots and excess hair. Unsurprisingly, injectables were another popular choice for consumers, with 2.1 million neuromodulators administered last year. In fact, injectables have been on the rise for quite some time, with neuromodulaters rising by seven percent and soft-tissue fillers increasing by 21 percent since 2012. The reasoning behind these surges in cosmetic procedures is simple: The ASDS Consumer Survey on Cosmetic Dermatologic Procedures found that people are aspiring to feel “more confident, more attractive and look as young as they feel,” and as a result they're turning to dermatologists to achieve that.
