If you’re new to laser hair removal, you are likely unsure as to what to expect during your first appointment. This section lets you know what to expect.

During your first call to us, we will invite you for a FREE consultation during which we will perform a test patch. The test patch allows us to be the most effective according to your skin type. The consultation is usually 45 minutes to an hour.

You will then schedule another appointment for your treatment. You will wear goggles to protect your eyes from accidental exposure to laser light. The length of the procedure depends on the area of the body involved. A small area, such as the upper lip, may take several minutes whereas a larger area, such as the back, may require several hours.

During the procedure, your Certified Laser Technician presses a hand-held laser to your skin, and activates it for a fraction of a second. The laser light passes through your skin’s surface to tiny sacs called hair follicles. Each follicle contains a bulb that germinates a hair shaft. Many people describe the “zap” as a rubber band smack. Because laser hair typically causes only mild discomfort, patients generally don’t need anesthetics. However, topical ointments are available if you find the procedure too uncomfortable. Once the laser zaps there is no virtually no pain.

The procedure causes a slight charring of your stubble and you may notice a strong odor of singed hair, which is normal. Afterwards, you may experience some temporary redness and swelling. The hair will continue to grow through its cycle until the dead end falls out. After your treatment, you will be able to continue your normal routine or return to work.
